Invitation to Festive Open Day and Christmas Online Store

December 4, 2025

Dear friends,

The winter is drawing in, and for us at St Ethelburga’s that means the start of tree-planting season! A few weeks ago, a new cohort of 15 community leaders gathered in Chettle village in Dorset, for an immersive weekend of hedgerow planting, night walks, fireside conversation, learning, and storytelling. Over the coming months, they will weave their communities together, contributing to the network of close to 50 diverse communities and over 50,000 trees (nearly 10km) that we have planted in the last 3 years.

If you’re looking for an unusual gift for someone special this year, please do consider planting some trees in their name with our Gift of Trees at Christmas campaign. You can choose how many trees you’d like us to plant for you and in which county, and you’ll receive a beautiful personalised printable certificate to give to your loved one.

We’re also excited to announce the launch of the St Ethelburga’s Christmas Online Store! Explore a beautiful collection inspired by our Bedouin Tent and rich history. From Peace Greeting Cards to tote bags, notebooks, postcards, and our Hope from the Ashes booklet — every item supports our ongoing projects and mission. Visit the store now and discover meaningful gifts that make a difference. To receive your Christmas gifts on time, please place your order by 12 December.

You are warmly invited to join our annual Festive Open Day this coming Tuesday 9th December from noon onwards. This free, drop-in event is a chance to explore the building, meet our team, and join in with some carol singing (at 2pm and 4pm). At 6:30pm, everyone is welcome to join Contemplative Practice in the Bedouin Tent, a moment to honour light in the darkness. Come enjoy seasonal treats, warming refreshments and good conversation.

Sunday 21 December is Yalda Night (Shabe-e Yalda), a cherished Afghan and Iranian celebration marking the longest night of the year and the turning toward light. We’ll honour this ancient intercultural Winter Solstice with live music from members of DelBand, and customary Yalda foods—nuts, dried fruits, watermelon and pomegranates. Everyone is welcome to bring stories, poems and musical instruments for an intimate night of celebration in St Ethelburga’s Nave.

Do check out our 2026 events and trainings, including a Guided New Year Online Retreat on 9 January, Soul Space on 14 January, Conflict Coaching both in person and online, and many more. Scroll down for the full list of upcoming events.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our events soon!

With warmest wishes,

Tarot Couzyn and the St Ethelburga's team
