Migrateful is a social enterprise that empowers and celebrates refugees and vulnerable migrants on their journey to integration by supporting them to run their own cookery classes. We are excited to be welcoming Migrateful chefs at St Ethelburga’s as part of our Refugee Allies project.

What better way than food to bring people together?  Join us for Elizabethe’s cooking class where you’ll learn to prepare some beautiful traditional Nigerian dishes, hear the stories behind the recipes and be transported to a Nigerian kitchen for the evening.

Meet the Chef

“My name is Elizabeth, I’m a mother of three from the Western part of Nigeria and I love cooking. My passion for cooking started from when I was a young girl and carried all the way to boarding school and then at university until I got married. I was always finding excuses to rustle up something in the kitchen! From baking little treats to handling large cookings for family parties, I have found myself constantly cooking for friends and family. I have had years of volunteering at a weekly soup kitchen in the heart of Tottenham and more recently at Hackney Migrant Center. This passion brought me to Migrateful and the experience has been awesome. Not only do I get to learn various types of dishes but I also get to meet people from so many parts of the world! For someone who doesn’t travel around much like me, that’s the best part! I get to sneak a peak into all these countries…. an absolute pleasure! Sharing my love for food is a really great way to feel a connection with my roots, seeing the pleasure on people’s faces when they eat my food is the icing on top of the cake!”

What to expect

During a Migrateful cookery classes you will work within your group to prepare dishes to be served family-style. Some dishes are prepared by the chef and demonstrated to you, while some dishes will have you preparing it from beginning to end while learning our chef’s authentic techniques from their home country. Our classes appeal to those interested in learning international recipes, practising a different language and in meeting new people for a cultural exchange in an intimate setting, as well as to those wishing to support migrants and refugees struggling to rebuild their lives.

Tickets

The ticket price covers the cost of ingredients and a donation to support the innovative work of Migrateful.  £35 + £2.90 booking fee sold by  Migrateful through Eventbrite.  Book soon to avoid disappointment!

If this class is fully booked – join us for the next one!   Each month Migrateful chefs will be bringing their traditional cuisine and teaching a new class at St Ethelburga’s.
