A group for Christians of all denominations interested in the work of St Ethelburga’s to strengthen Christian support for and awareness of the mission of the Centre, through prayer, discussion and worship. Discussion led by Canon Rev. George Newton on practicing love for your neighbour and welcoming others in the face of fear.
Rev. George Newton
Rev. George Newton will be introducing our conversation this month on practicing love for your neighbour and welcoming others in the face of fear.
We’re excited to welcome George and hear about his experience of being a faith leader in a context that was on the brink of conflict. He used pragmatism, openness and frank conversations to ensure that anger did not escalate, and the community could begin to settle into a new rhythm.
Master of the Worshipful Company of Girdlers, George was Curate and then Associate Vicar of St. Thomas, Blackpool from 1993-99 and has been Vicar of Holy Trinity, Aldershot since 1999. He is currently Area Dean and overseeing a church plant in his parish and project managing innovative town-wide ministries. He has had various chaplaincies and diocesan roles as well as having served on General Synod.
The Fellowship of St Ethelburga meets on the first Wednesday of the month for Holy Communion at 1:00 pm followed by a light lunch and then a lunchtime discussion on peace and reconciliation at 1:45pm. All with an interest in peace and reconciliation are welcome, from all faiths and none, no reservations needed, and you can drop in at any time during the event.

St Ethelburga’s is a ‘maker of peace-makers’. We inspire and equip individuals and communities to contribute, in their own particular contexts, to activating a global culture of peace.
