Humanity Cafe
Humanity Cafe is a true life storytelling 'club' that travels to diverse communities in London and gathers people together in a unique way, offering opportunities for getting to know each other and building relationships through the process of sharing our stories and experiences. Humanity Cafe events have been held as part of One World Week; for students in FE colleges; for young people in youth clubs; and within organisations for team building purposes. They are a fun, non-threatening way of sharing a little of our histories with each other as a way of building bridges, overcoming prejudice, and enriching our community cohesion.
Humanity Cafe invites you to look at the simple everyday stories of your life and find the gift in them that you can offer to others. We explore themes such as journeys, change, hospitality, love and friendship, coming to terms with difference, families and parenting, meetings and partings.
Events include one or all of the following elements: listening to one or two unusual tales told by experienced storytellers; lots of time for story sharing exercises and games; opportunities to improve communication skills and understand how to tell a good tale; musical interludes offered by local musicians; food (sometimes cooked or donated by the communities involved), and plenty of social time.
Humanity Cafe events are co-created with community partners in collaboration with Justine Huxley (St Ethelburga's); Jo Yates (Spark) and June Peters (Storyteller). If you would like to discuss hosting a Humanity Cafe event in your area or focusing on your community, we would love to hear from you. For more info email Justine
Sea of stories - Multifaith storytelling crew
We are currently cooking up big ideas for a follow up to the very successful Sea of Stories performances that were held at places of worship around London during National Interfaith Week last November. Our six, fabulous, faith-based storytellers worked beautifully together, and our hope is to capture that chemistry, and the new cross-faith relationships that were formed, and find a way to take that forward and share it with more faith communities. Traditional story can be a great way to share our faith with others - we all love to hear stories - and faith based stories reveal a huge amount about belief, perspective, history, and culture - but we take it in effortlessly in such an enjoyable way. So watch this space - we'll keep you informed about where we are headed!
Society for Storytelling - Special interest group in faith and religion
This group meets in the Tent every two months and brings together traditional storytellers who are interested in faith and spirituality. We share resources, discuss ideas and listen to stories. Open to all. For more information contact Sarah Perceval.
