Recently, whilst supporting individuals with conflict issues, I began to ponder the role of empty space.   When we are in conflict, particularly entrenched conflict, we often tend to contract emotionally, and our way of seeing things can become quite hardened.  Our thought patterns, the attributions we make about the other person, our emotional responses and our behaviour, can become fixed and inflexible.  The challenge is to find ways to open this up.

Gasandji – March 3rd (DRC)

This month’s concerts at St Ethelburga’s began with a visit from Paris by Congolese musician Gasandji.

I have just returned from an exciting new workshop on using personal storytelling techniques with people who are seriously ill or dying. 

The idea for the workshop came from Rabbi Markus Lange, who is a Chaplain at the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead, and who attended one of the story trainings for faith leaders that we offered in partnership with the London Interfaith Centre last summer. 

St Ethelburga's are excited to present a new week long intensive course in our approaches to listening and dialogue facilitation.

On the 1st March 2012, we worked with the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University in Willesden and Roi Gal Or from the International School of Storytelling to host a multifaith event sharing personal stories.

Welcome to our new music blog, picking up where we left off in 2011 and reviewing THREE nights of great music concerts that have just taken place over the month of JANUARY 2012 at St Ethelburga's.

We had the pleasure of having a double bill feature of Delicatessen and PAKAW! on January 14th as our first music concert for the year 2012.

We had another incredible year of live ‘world music’ concerts at St Ethelburga’s over the course of 2011 with 36 concerts. The variety of sounds and rhythms from all around the world never ceases to amaze both us at St Ethelburga's as well as our keen audiences.

• JANUARY to end of MARCH brought us music from Iran, Senegal, Hungary, Cape Verde, Indonesia, Egypt, Peru and Turkey.

2011 was quite a remarkable year of growth, of challenge, and of change at St Ethelburga's Centre for Reconciliation & Peace. Some of the highlights are shared below...
