Recently, whilst supporting individuals with conflict issues, I began to ponder the role of empty space. When we are in conflict, particularly entrenched conflict, we often tend to contract emotionally, and our way of seeing things can become quite hardened. Our thought patterns, the attributions we make about the other person, our emotional responses and our behaviour, can become fixed and inflexible. The challenge is to find ways to open this up.

I have just returned from an exciting new workshop on using personal storytelling techniques with people who are seriously ill or dying.
The idea for the workshop came from Rabbi Markus Lange, who is a Chaplain at the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead, and who attended one of the story trainings for faith leaders that we offered in partnership with the London Interfaith Centre last summer.
