Simon Keyes - Director
"Coming to St Ethelburga’s was a surprise after years of working in the fields of homelessness, mental health and crime prevention. Strangely, almost everything I’ve done seems to come in useful here one way or another. I love the scope St Ethelburga’s offers to combine creativity and enterprise with meeting a quite extraordinary range of inspiring people. I couldn’t ask for a better team of staff and volunteers to work with."

“On joining the charity in 2001, and after several years of hard fund-raising, I was privileged to see the restoration of this wonderful medieval church. Since then it has developed into a thriving Centre promoting reconciliation and peace-making in communities and individual lives. The vast number of people from all walks of life and backgrounds who come to this unique space never ceases to amaze me! Every day is different and challenging in its own way, but hugely rewarding in many ways.”

"I'm passionate about bringing diverse peoples together in new ways
and fascinated by the power of narrative and true life storytelling to build bridges. It is a tremendous privilege to work here and i have learned more than i would ever have thought possible."

"I joined the St Ethelburga’s team in 2006 having previously studied history, then human rights. I’m really interested in identifying and understanding the root causes of conflict and fear of difference, and in finding new ways of transforming relationships. I love working with the array of people that come to St Ethelburga’s and am constantly inspired by the personal experiences and insights that people share here. It is a wonderful privilege to be part of this work."

"Before coming here I studied Conflict Resolution at Bradford University's Peace Studies Department. I was then lucky enough to spend a year working for the Quakers as part of their one year peaceworker programme, placed at Peace Child International facilitating Conflict Resolution, drama and peace education workshops. I love working with young people and feel very lucky to be involved in the exciting youth work that goes on here".
Wallee McDonnell – Music Coordinator
"I'm from Dublin, been in the UK since 1977. I came to live here working as an Asylum Support worker for the Refugee Council for 6+ years but took redundancy in 2004 and decided to work in the area of World Music. I was putting on music events at the time I met Simon Keyes at one of his 'spiritual cinema' screenings and he invited me to begin a series of concerts that would fit in with the ethos of St Ethelburga's. Given the beautiful space I really developed it and gradually others joined me. Now we have a vibrant weekly, more or less, concert presenting music from the four corners of the world. "
Jeff Parkinson - Event Facilitator
"Having trained in the visual arts, I find the delightful atmosphere and visual beauty of St Ethelburga's make it an irresistable place to be. Its 800 year old history lingers and gives one a sense of the perspective of time, which contrasts greatly with the rapid movement and fast flowing pace of the City of which we are very much a part."
